🦅"THE EDEN EXTRA"🦅

The Chairman's Update:

Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Bula Vinaka, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana - Welcome to Eden Rugby Club for our Centennial year.

It seems appropriate that in such an important year in our history we recognise our past, hence the name of our newsletter being "The Eden Extra".

It has been a particularly busy start to our season but early indications show we are looking good on the field in all grades. Despite total numbers being down on last year, we will have 24 junior teams. A big thank you to all who have helped in getting our teams together.

There have been a number of changes around the club that need to be noted.

Farewell

I would like to thank Phil Cullen, Alicia Kerr and Mark Fredrickson who have resigned from their Executive roles for their hard work and dedication.

Welcome

We have made some exciting appointments to the Eden team.

  • Olive Fergusson is our new Administration Officer and comes to us from roles as sports administrator at Marist College and now, College Sport Auckland.
  • Welcome back to Katie Mareva who is taking care of our finance role whilst we seek a replacement.
  • Roddy Costa has rejoined us as Junior Game Development Manager and will be overseeing coaching and development in our juniors but also assisting in the senior club when possible.
  • We also congratulate Clieth Tauisi who joins the Executive team.

The season kicks off this Saturday 30/4 and we have been fortunate to have a number of key home games early so we are looking forward to a full club as we defend the trophies won last year.

Like you, I can't wait to see all our Eden teams out there again.

Lennox SAM

Club Chairman

The President's Word:

Kia Ora whanau

Our season is almost upon us all. Great to see teams training again. Junior registration has been very busy for a small group of volunteers, ensuring our teams are represented in the Auckland PIC rugby junior grades this season.

Our senior teams are also gearing up for the start of their competition at the end of April.

It has been a very busy start to this year for our executive board, dealing with various issues and Covid. We have a new club Chairman, Lennox Sam who is also Eden junior delegate representative to ARU. Lennox brings his own leadership qualities to our small but very committed executive team.

If you haven’t booked your tickets for the centennial dinner at Eden Park grand hall on Friday 3rd June, please do so urgently. Visit our website or there are forms available at the club’s bar for you to register your interest.

Eden Rugby’s very own Haka

As a multicultural central Auckland community club in Auckland. We have acquired the help of Māori cultural adviser Mihaere Emery. Mihaere is an Eden old boy, with a group of committed old boys and club members, we are in the process of composing our haka. There is a cultural process involved it’s an interesting journey. Our next meeting next Wednesday evening 27th April at 7pm. Everyone’s welcome to participate and experience first-hand the creation of Eden Rugby’s haka..

"It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership”
